My Top Three Favorite Essential Oils

My Top Three Favorite Essential Oils

I want to preface the following article by noting that essential oils are very powerful. They are often too strong when used on our skin. Especially if you have sensitive skin. Never put straight essential oils on your skin. I always recommend cutting any essential oil with a carrier oil such as pure, high quality Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, or my personal favorite, Fractioned Coconut Oil. In my personal experience and in my research over the years, I do not recommend taking essential oils internally. But that is my own personal opinion. Having said that, these are my favorites.

Frankincense

This essential oil has a woody, spicy, masculine scent. If you are spiritual, you probably know that it was one of the three gifts brought to Jesus when he was born. It can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin. It's been reported that this particular oil has actual health benefits. It can improve arthritis and even reduces asthma. It's been noted to help fight certain types of cancer. Frankincense is the only thing that breaks through the blood/brain barrier. Not even chemotherapy can do that.

Frankincense reduces feelings of anxiety and stimulates the immune system. Used topically, it reduces the users signs of aging by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. It increases the skins elasticity.

Frankincense is an expectorant to clear the nasal passageways. When used as an aromatherapy, it encourages easier breathing. In the same way, it can be put in a diffuser or vaporizer or mixed in hot water to clean the air. While using in these ways it eliminates air borne bacteria. Lastly this particular essential oil is extremely grounding.

Lavender

Aromatherapy is the most common use of this essential oil. The fragrance alone promotes calmness, and reduces stress immediately upon inhaling. Aromatherapists use lavender to treat to treat headaches, nervousness and restlessness. If you have headaches, rub some on your temples. Again, mixed with a carrier oil. Lavender helps treat the discomfort and visible inflammation of eczema, psoriasis, to rosacea. Lavender oil, just like Frankincense, is loaded with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. A study published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, found that lavender oil can be effective in combating anti-fungal-resistant infections. Lavender can even promote hair growth by 44 percent after 7 months of treatment (I have seen this happen for myself). Fun things to use lavender for would be, making gorgeous wreaths for any holiday, filling rice bags with the flowers (you may use flax seed instead of rice if you wish to mix with the lavender flowers). Easy to make at home if you have even the most basic sewing skills. You can put them in the freezer to use as ice packs, or you may heat them in the microwave to stay warm and relaxed in the winter.

Rosemary

The Rosemary herb is loaded with antioxidants. It contains Calcium, Iron, Vitamins A, C and B-6. Rich in these compounds, Rosemary can boost the immune system, improving blood circulation. One of my favorite things about Rosemary oil is its aroma. Rosemary is calming, refreshing and rejuvenating. If you happen to be feeling moody, grab a sprig from your garden, squeeze and inhale. It will calm you instantly. I love mixing it with lavender in a bath or diffuser. Rosemary is much stronger than lavender so my advise is to use half the amount of drops of Rosemary as you do lavender. Another very important note about Rosemary oil is that is is an antidote to Bacterial infections. It cleans the air of germs if you use in a diffuser, pot of hot water on the stove, in a humidifier or you may make a mist spray and use it that way.
